I’m honored to play the character of Janet in an 80s style slasher film currently in post-production
I moved out to Los Angeles in 2014 to attend the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. I spent some time studying and working behind the camera before (and, in hindsight, inevitably) moving in front of the camera. Although, I still enjoy writing both screenplays and novels.
I grew up in Waco, Texas and from as early as I can remember, I knew that I wanted to work in film. I have no idea how I came to that realization at the age of 3, but regardless, I did - and I was adamant.
I can remember as a child dictating my scripts to my mom as she typed for me. I would then run around the house, acting out the scenes, sometimes to my stuffed animals, but most times to my parents (who were subjected to hours long performances with no intermissions or bathroom breaks). Yes, my parents are absolute saints. The video camera they gave me for Christmas one year was a game changer (for everyone’s bladders) — that is until it came time to HDMI the camcorder to the TV. GRAB THE POPCORN!
In middle school, I learned about iMovie (and there was much rejoicing).
I would incessantly beg my parents to take me to Los Angeles so that I could pursue my dreams. Yes, again, my parents are saints and, to no one’s surprise, were at a loss at their 8 year old crying over her career. I will never forget them telling me, “work really hard and get into a great film program in college.” And the rest, they say, is history. I don’t know who they are, but good on them.
All our dreams can come true;
if we have the courage to pursue them.
- Walt Disney
After graduating from USC, I tried my hardest to convince myself that I would be satisfied with a stable 9-5 in the industry. I’d always been the responsible type, so this was pretty on brand. However, after bouncing around as an assistant at SAG-AFTRA, Disney, and to some industry professionals, I realized this strategy was not going to work for me. Although the experience I got was second to none and I will always be grateful for that, holding back from what I was truly passionate about was making me sad, resentful, and bitter - not exactly the makings of a thriving 24 year old. So, at the end of 2021, I quit my job and turned to acting and writing full time, and I can honestly say - I have never been happier.
I love storytelling. I love breathing life into every character I am thrown and connecting with audiences through shared experiences and emotions. Through roles I get to learn more about the human experience and, ultimately, myself. Because if there is anything acting has taught me, it’s that we are not that different. Thanks for being along for the journey.
